Just like other fish oils, krill oil is loaded with omega 3 essential fatty acids EPA and DHA. These essential fatty acids support cardiovascular health, healthy cognitive function, joint health and more but which is a better source, krill oil or fish oil?
Krill Oil is better absorbed by the body
Well the answer is that research has shown that krill oil is better absorbed by the body than fish oil. This is because most of the omega 3 fatty acids in krill are bound to phospholipids rather than triglycerides and therefore they are released into the bloodstream and taken up by cells much more efficiently. Triglyceride-based omega 3's must be converted by the liver before they can be used by the body's cells. This in turn means that you might be able to take less (or at least take smaller pills) and still enjoy the same health benefits as fish oils.
No fishy burps!!
Fishy burps or a fishy aftertaste are a major draw back to taking fish oils for some people. The great thing about krill oil is that the phospholipids on which the fatty acids are bound disperse in water and therefore blend into the fluids within the stomach rather than sitting on top of them like triglycerides do. This means that you're less likely to get a fishy reminder that you've taken your fish oil supplement!
Krill oils contains Astaxanthin
The other benefit of krill oil is that it contains Astaxanthin - a carotenoid antioxidant - while fish oil doesn't. Astaxanthin is a very powerful antioxidant which a molecular structure that makes it extremely effective at neutralising free radicals that damage the body.
Just Vitamins Krill Oil is sustainably and responsibly sourced
The manufacturers of our krill oil, Aker Biomerine, harvest krill from the Antarctic Sea and the Saga Sea. They are dedicated to responsible and sustainable management of krill due to the fact that it's a key species in the Antarctic ecosystem. They have spent nearly a decade developing environmentally friendly harvesting technology to eliminate unwanted by-catch (non-krill species) and minimise environmental impact.
